Shubhendu Adhikari : Shahjahan's arrest not Arrest, But "Mutual Coordination"

Sheikh Shahjahan, a prominent figure in Sandeshali, West Bengal, has been apprehended after 55 days, facing numerous serious charges including land grabbing, sexual harassment, murder, and an attack on the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The arrest has sparked a political showdown between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP, with tensions escalating amidst conflicting narratives surrounding Shahjahan's detention.

While the ADG clarifies that Shahjahan was arrested specifically for the attack on the ED team, Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh expresses confidence in the police's actions, alleging initial legal hurdles and accusing the opposition of exploiting the situation.

BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya claimed that 'it was the TMC and the state police that were protecting the culprits. He has now been arrested as part of a well-written script. The BJP had earlier alleged that Shaikh was in the safe custody of the state police since Tuesday night'.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said that this is not an arrest, 'it is mutual coordination. Unless the central agencies take Shahjahan into their custody, the people of Sandeshkhali will not get justice. Now he will get 5 star facilities in the jail. He will use the mobile phone inside and control the area from there. They were not even accepting that something had happened in Sandeshkhali. I had already said that we will force the government to arrest Sheikh Shahjahan'.
